Aina Nergaard Nammack, 96, of Lewes, passed away peacefully Monday, April 20, 2026, surrounded by her beloved children. Aina was born March 12, 1930, in Santander, Spain, daughter of the late Federico Nergaard and Anita Dominguez Nergaard.
Aina's full obituary is in the April 24, 2026, issue of the Cape Gazette. After leaving Spain as a newlywed, Aina moved with her husband 15 times. It was on the western shores of the Atlantic in Lewes that Aina found her "happy place" in the late 1980s. Aina’s true essence was found in her art, which graced the walls of galleries in Brazil, New York, Washington, D.C., Virginia and Delaware. In Lewes, she struck a beautiful balance between her creative discipline and a vibrant social life. While she spent many hours painting, she also practiced yoga and tai chi, walked with her friends, and enjoyed the camaraderie of her weekly happy hour gang. Aina’s warmth and zest for life earned her many lasting friendships. Above all, Aina’s greatest devotion was to her family. Her legacy lives on in the strength and integrity she fostered in those she loved most.
She is survived by her four children, her daughter, Marta Frimann Nammack (Francis Murphy) of Richmond, Va.; son, John Nergaard Nammack (Manuel Cortes) of Washington, D.C.; daughter, Carla Delacroix Nammack (Matt Slaughter) of Catlett, Va.; son, Austin Renehan Nammack (Linda) of Locust Grove, Va.; six grandchildren, Yukari Nakamura, Tatsuya Nakamura (Meghan), Christina, Austin, Brooke and Nicholas; great-granddaughter, Alina Rae Nakamura; and 11 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Austin Nammack, and her sister, Maria Rosa Nergaard Sanguino.
Services will be held with a visitation with the family from 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday, June 6, at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, 152 Tulip Drive, Lewes. The Mass begins at 11 a.m.
