Alfred “Al” Cody, had a great wit

March 18, 2019

Alfred “Al” Cody, 82, of Dagsboro passed away at his home peacefully Sunday, March 17, 2019, but his sarcasm, stubbornness and wit will never be forgotten. A breakfast connoisseur, grillmaster, mixologist, groundskeeper, propagator, comedian and (self-proclaimed) political analyst, Al was the steady heart of his family.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Phyllis Cody; his son, Matthew Brough; his daughter, Marie McDonnell; and granddaughter, Kathryn Harris. He is survived by his children Laura and Larry Harris, Sharon and Mark Courtney, Melissa and Brian Farrell, Stephanie Brough, Al and Anne Cody, Rick McDonnell, and Diane Nash. He was the proud grandfather to Cody Harris, Rachael and Nathan Moore, Allison Farrell, Lindsey Farrell, Nicole Deshaies, Megan and Ryan Martin, Catherine Cody, Christopher Cody, Scott and Jackie McDonnell, and Sarah McDonnell. He was great-grandfather to Evangeline Moore (and another on the way). He is also survived by many friends and neighbors.

Those who remember him are asked to celebrate Al’s life in their own way - raising a glass of their favorite drink or lighting a cigar in his memory, would be most appropriate. Knowing and loving you was the success story of our lives. “When the roots run deep, there is no reason to fear the wind.”

A celebration of life to be announced. Arrangements by Melson Funeral Services.
