Celebrating its 25th year in 2026, Lewes in Bloom is vying for its sixth accolade from America in Bloom’s national awards program, which recognizes diverse achievements and successes among participating communities.

Program advisers Ellen Paparozzi, a retired professor from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and Jeff Wilson from Verona, Miss., representing the North Mississippi Research & Extension Center, will visit Lewes from Sunday to Thursday, July 12 to 15.

Using a detailed set of nationally recognized metrics that measure many aspects of a city, the advisors will provide a written report including observations and suggestions in the eight America in Bloom Areas of Impact; Floral Displays, Landscaped Areas, Environmental Initiatives, Celebrating Heritage, Urban Forestry, Community Vitality, Community Involvement and Overall Impression, a road map for making Lewes even more inviting and enjoyable for everyone.

Lewes in Bloom, as directed by its board of advisors, comprises an all-volunteer organization. Its mission is to promote and maintain the beautification of Lewes public gardens and parks through citizen volunteerism, thereby inspiring community spirit. 

Founded in 2001, the same year as Lewes in Bloom, America in Bloom promotes and builds vibrant and sustainable communities through volunteerism and education emphasizing flowers, plants, trees, heritage, and environmental and lifestyle enhancements.
