American Legion Auxiliary serve as Lewes’ elves

January 1, 2021

Normally during the December holidays, the American Legion Auxiliary of Post 17 is very busy with planning, decorating and participating in the Lewes Christmas Parade. Inasmuch as that event was cancelled this year due to the pandemic, the unit volunteers refused to stay put. Instead they were miraculously transformed into Santa’s Elves. The elves’ duties were to stroll the downtown streets, greet visitors and answer questions.  Gentle reminders were given from the elves to make sure all were wearing face coverings and being socially distanced, especially when waiting in line to see Santa or dropping off letters in Santa’s mailbox. Elves also helped Santa respond to letters that had a return address.  Lots of masked family photos were taken so all will remember 2020.

Needless to say, a wonderful time was had by all, and it was yet another opportunity for the American Legion Auxiliary to embrace and serve the Lewes community.
