American Legion Auxiliary Unit 17 performs roadway cleanup

July 25, 2021

American Legion Auxiliary Unit 17 members took part July 12 in a cleanup of Minos Conaway Road near Lewes. The unit has participated for over 20 years in the Adopt-A-Highway Program, and discovered that a large percentage of the collected debris was made up of recyclable materials, but also included potentially toxic and dangerous trash, such as hypodermic needles and oil-based products.

This event resulted in four large trash bags being filled, and ended with prayers being said for those dealing with addiction after concerns about what was discovered during this cleanup.

Unit 17 Auxiliary is proud to take on its part of the shared responsibility to preserve and protect the local landscape, knowing that these efforts have a direct beneficial effect on the safety and quality of life in the area.

Volunteers shown are (l-r) Dottie Nicholson, Abigayle Bergen of the junior auxiliary, and Kellie Bergen, Unit 17 chaplain.
