Angeline Suozzi, excellent cook
Angeline Agnes Maccarone Suozzi, a longtime resident of Bethany Beach, passed away peacefully Monday, April 8, 2019, in Windsor Heights Assisted Living and Memory Care, Beachwood, Ohio.
Angie was born April 25, 1921, in Glen Cove, N.Y., the youngest of nine children of Luigi and Carmela Maccarone. She graduated from St. Dominic’s High School and went on to receive her bachelor of science degree in biology in 1943 from Notre Dame University of Maryland. Angie was the first in her family to graduate from college.
After college, Angie worked as a laboratory technician in New York City. She often spoke of her fond memories of those years commuting from Glen Cove on the train into the city with her best friend and college roommate Celia, and of her love for New York.
In 1952, Angie married Joseph J. Suozzi and the couple moved to Washington, D.C. Angie and Joe were married for 50 years. During that time, they moved many times – from Washington to Morristown, N.J., to Pittsburgh, Pa., to Orange, N.J., to Bethlehem, Pa., to Convent Station, N.J., and after Joe’s retirement, to their Bethany Beach summer home. In all of these places, Angie made many friends and kept those friendships lifelong. Angie was widely travelled, having visited much of Europe, as well as Japan and southeast Asia.
Angie was known for her hospitality, warm spirit, and excellent cooking. She enjoyed visiting and socializing, and kept in touch with her large extended family and many friends around the country and the world through phone calls and letters. She remained an active alumna of her beloved alma mater, Notre Dame of Maryland, and also volunteered for many years for the Delaware CHEER Meals on Wheels program.
Angie was predeceased by her husband, Joe; her parents; and sisters and brothers. She is survived by her five daughters: Patricia Suozzi (Robert Kenny), Donna Tanguay (Michael), Gina Suozzi, Veronica Suozzi (Gregory Auberry), and Paula Suozzi (Jonathan West); her grandchildren: Devin, Callan, Max (Fay), Isabel, Dean, Ella, Dorothea, Carmela, and Heather Kenny (Brian Ruane); her great-grandchildren: Sylvie and Charlie; and by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m., Monday, April 15, at the Ocean View Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 38040 Muddy Neck Road, Ocean View. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 16, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 691 Garfield Pkwy., Bethany Beach.
The family would like to extend our sincerest thanks to the staff of Windsor Heights and Kindred Hospice for their kindness, and loving care and support of our mother in her final years.
