Angelo Michael Salera, worked in finance

Angelo Michael Salera, 80, of Middletown passed away Monday, Oct. 7, 2019.

Born in Bronx, N.Y., May 8, 1939, he was a son of the late Nunzio and Frances (Lella) Salera. Angelo graduated from Hunter College in New York City and proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Reserves. Earlier in his career he worked as a CPA for Arthur Young. He later worked in finance for National Rural Utilities Cooperative Finance Corporation for 35 years in the D.C. Metro area, retiring to Rehoboth Beach and then to Middletown.

Angelo was a youth football coach for 25 years in Vienna and Chantilly, Va., and loved attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and activities. He was also an avid New York Giants and Yankees fan. Angelo enjoyed playing poker and craps with friends and family. He could often be found watching horse racing, or playing billiards and bocce ball. Angelo loved spending quality time with family and friends, and sharing wonderful stories and traditions. His generosity, friendly smile, warm hugs and firm handshake will be dearly missed.

Angelo is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Beverly Anne (Phillips) Salera; children, Craig Salera (Kimberly) and Jennifer Hoynes (Michael); and grandchildren, Cory Salera, Ethan Salera and Meghan Hoynes.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 4 until 7 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 13, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 275 East Main St., Middletown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m., Monday, Oct. 14, at St. Joseph R.C. Church, 371 East Main St., Middletown. Entombment will follow at All Saints’ Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Angelo’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675-8517.
