Anna T. Callahan, Wilmington Trust retiree

December 10, 2018

Anna T. Callahan (Ann), 88, of Rehoboth Beach, formerly of New Castle, passed away surrounded by her loving family Thursday, Dec. 6, 2018, at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia.

Ann was born in Wilmington May 5, 1930, the daughter of the late Norman and Mildred (Stewart) Tingle.  Ann’s childhood years were filled with many wonderful memories that she cherished. She developed her love of the beach from frequent family trips to Ocean City and Delmar, Md.  Through these memories her spunk, sense of fun and love of life flourished. Following graduation from Wilmington High School, Ann worked at Bancroft for several years.  She met the love of her life William (Bill) Callahan and became a wife and mother.  Her dream was always to be a mother.  During the raising of her four daughters, Ann worked part time at Wilmington Trust until retiring and relocating to Rehoboth Beach.

In retirement Ann became a very active member of both the Cape Henlopen and Lewes senior centers.  She enjoyed socializing with friends, playing cards and bingo.  Ann loved to travel, cook, crochet and take walks on the beach and boardwalk.  Her most precious memories are the times spent with her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bill and her brother Norman.  Ann is survived by four daughters, Susan Davis (Michael), Karen Callahan, Patti Burns (Dave), and Katie Hatton (Chuck); seven grandchildren, Kristen (Tommy), Brittany (Ricky), Meghan, Sarah, DJ, Erin and Sean; and one great-granddaughter, Anna Rose.  She is also survived by sisters-in-law Patricia Sianni and Lucy Callahan; cousins, a niece and nephews.

Visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 15, at Saint Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, 152 Tulip Drive, Lewes.  Interment will be held privately at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Ann’s name to either the Cape Henlopen Senior Center, 11 Christian St., Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971, or the Lewes Senior Center, 32083 Janice Road, Lewes, DE 19958.
