Anna ‘Ann’ C. (Nicastro) Heidenberg and M. Michael ‘Mike’ Heidenberg, married 71 years

Anna “Ann” C. (Nicastro) Heidenberg, 93, and M. Michael “Mike” Heidenberg, 91, of Bethany Beach, formerly of Hyattsville, Md., passed away Monday, Feb. 17 (Ann) and Wednesday, Feb. 19 (Mike), 2020. 

Their fairytale love story began when they met in Washington, D.C., in 1946. They were married April 24, 1948.  After service in the Marine Corps from 1945-47, Mike retired from the D.C. Water Department after 33 years of service, and from Safeway after 30 years of service.  Ann was always proud of her early years of working for the Commerce Department, Bell Telephone Company and especially at the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, before she left the workforce to raise their 11 children.

They are survived by Ann’s brother, Anthony “Nino” Nicastro; their children, Michael (Pam), Maryann, Therese (Greg), Grace (Danny), Anne Marie (Tony), Margaret (Rick), Nick, Cecilia (Phil), Cathy (Ted) and Marguerite; daughter-in-law, Debbie; 30 grandchildren; and 66 great-grandchildren.  They are preceded in death by their sons, John and Joseph; Ann’s sisters, Grace (George) and Nancy (Sandy); brother, Nunzio; parents, Mary and Nicholas Nicastro; sister-in-law, Cynthia Nicastro; Mike’s sister, Millie (Ben); and parents Fannie and Sam.  

Visitation for Ann and Mike will be Monday, March 2, from 10 to 11 a.m., at St. Jerome’s Catholic Church, 5205 43rd Ave., Hyattsville, immediately followed by Mass of Christian Burial.  Interment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring, Md. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
