‘Van Gogh & Japan’ to be shown at Cinema Art Theater
January 23, 2020

For the fourth year, the Rehoboth Beach Film Society will present the Journeys in Art History film series featuring a new Exhibition on Screen offering each month, January through April. The focus of the series is to introduce the works of history’s greatest painters and provide opportunities to view blockbuster art exhibitions from galleries worldwide.

The first presentation, “Van Gogh & Japan,” will be screened at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 28, at the Cinema Art Theater, 17701 Dartmouth Drive, Lewes.

Though Van Gogh never visited Japan, it had a profound influence on him and his art.

In the middle of the 19th century, he visited the new galleries of Japanese art in Paris and then created his own image of Japan through in-depth research, print collecting and detailed discussions with other artists. He incorporated Japanese influences, which took his work in new and exciting directions, and helped him define himself as a modern artist.

`The film travels not only to France and the Netherlands, but also to Japan to further explore the remarkable heritage that made Van Gogh the artist people admire today.

Admission is $9 for members and $11 for nonmembers. For more information or to purchase tickets, go to www.rehobothfilm.com or call 302-645-9095. Available seats will be sold at the door 30 minutes before starting time.
