Local author Melanie Figueroa will celebrate the launch of her second bilingual children's book, "My Super Dog/Mi Súper Perro," with a family-friendly event at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, May 30, at My Sister's Fault bakery, 10 SW Front St., Milford.
Written in both English and Spanish, "My Super Dog/Mi Súper Perro" is a heartfelt story for children ages 4-6, and it celebrates the beauty of differences and the power of unconditional love, transforming every challenge into a super adventure.
Through Maya and her dog Mickey, the story encourages children to express their feelings, build confidence and embrace their unique qualities as true strengths.
The two share joyful days filled with laughter and hope until Maya comes home from school feeling sad after being considered "different." A surprising discovery about Mickey helps her see things in a new way, uncovering a meaningful message that resonates with both children and families.
"For me, this book is both a privilege and a purpose – an opportunity to plant a seed that will grow across generations. It speaks not only to children, but also to the inner child that lives within every adult," said Figueroa. The book blends playful storytelling with an uplifting message, creating an engaging and encouraging experience for young readers.
A Milford-based author originally from Puerto Rica, Figueroa shares messages of faith, hope and encouragement through storytelling, radio and writing. She holds a bachelor's degree in marketing and a master's degree in business. Her first book was "Oliver and The Magic Door."
