Dominic Catlett
This Sussex Academy honor roll senior is making quite the name for himself on the pitch this season. He recently scored a brace in the Seahawks' 4-0 victory over Delmar Sept. 29, giving him five goals on the year. "He has had an outstanding start to his senior season," said Sussex Academy head coach Kyle Wheatley. "His early-season production is a reflection of the work he put in long before our first match kicked off. Dominic was one of our top fitness performers throughout preseason, which comes as no surprise given his commitment as a multi-sport athlete. He approaches his work on the soccer field with pride, discipline and a willingness to be coached every single day." He also competes for the Seahawks' indoor and outdoor track programs, and plays travel soccer with the Delaware Futbol Academy.
Brandon Jaimes
Long before this Sussex Academy athlete was a senior, he was a vocal and lead-by-example leader on the Seahawks' lacrosse and soccer teams. This fall, Brandon is not only wearing the captain's armband but also sports the coveted No. 10 jersey. BJ was a crucial member on the outside for Sussex Academy these last few years, but has the touch and IQ to operate anywhere on the pitch, and he commits to defense and offense with an intensity matched by few, if any. His work ethic and accountability have earned him a right to demand absolute effort and focus from his teammates. He can crack a smile and make others laugh just as easily as he leads on the soccer pitch and lacrosse field. In two games against the Henlopen South this season, he has two goals and one assist.
Kailey McMahon
This mercurial junior field hockey and soccer player is at her best in the open field powering toward the goal. Kailey scored the winning goal in the first minute of sudden-death overtime Sept. 24 at Smyrna as Cape prevailed 2-1. Cape had lost three previous overtime games versus the Eagles. “Overtime 7-on-7 gives me more room to run and no time to think about it,” Kailey said. "Mairead [Rishko] put the ball on my stick and I just knocked it home. It was a tense game, so it was a great feeling getting the win.” Kailey showed up the next game, a 10-0 win over Polytech, scoring a goal to go along with an assist. Kailey and Teagan Baker as freshmen (2024) combined for the winning goal in the 2-1 state championship victory over Smyrna. Kailey’s older sister Cadence is a junior on the Wilson College soccer roster. She is majoring in pre-veterinary medicine.
Xavier Zimmer
This Cape unified flag football junior has been energizing crowds with his enthusiastic running since his freshman year. In the team's season opener, Xavier stole the show again when he hauled in a mid-screen pass and took it the distance for a 38-yard touchdown reception. He wasn't satisfied, though, and opted to reverse his role on the next play, taking the snap at quarterback and tossing up a pass hauled in by Jaxon Holgerson. Xavier, or X-Man, will be a key member of the Vikings' title defense team after helping the team to a state championship in 2025, as Cape will look to him for at least one big play a game, if not two like he did against IR. The Vikings will head to Smyrna for their next game at 3:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 5.
