Anna Farrell

Anna, a rising freshman at Cape, is the two-time North American National Irish Dancing champion, and currently is second in the world. She started Irish dancing during the pandemic in 2020. She had seen Irish dancers at the Milton St. Patrick's Day parade and wanted to join. She quickly rose through the levels of competitive Irish dance to become an open champion dancer, which is the highest level. She practices four to five times per week at private studios in Lewes, Claymont and Newark with the McAleer-Paulson School of Irish Dance. She competes usually at least once per month. She has competed in Scotland, Ireland, Canada and across the U.S. Outside Irish dancing, she enjoys biking to downtown Lewes with her friends and going to the beach. Her sister Leah, a rising seventh-grader at Fred Thomas Middle, is also accomplished, placing 21st in the world and winning a regional championship three times. 

Adeline Lutz

This incoming Sussex Central High School junior led the Delaware District 3 leaderboard in most offensive categories during the Senior League Softball World Series earlier this month. Her .478 batting average, 11 hits, 12 runs scored, 3-to-1 walk-to-strikeout ratio, and 50% ground ball ratio led the squad. Her on-base percentage (.556), on-base plus slugging percentage (1.338), slugging percentage (.783) and four extra-base hits were good for second on the team. In the field, Adeline held down center field for the team and picked up a double play from the grass. She was also one of the most energetic players when something good happened and became a fan favorite with her celebrations. Adding to the experience, her dad Clint coached the team and was at third base for her triple. The Delaware District 3 squad breezed through pool play and the knockout rounds to reach the championship game, where they fell to a team from Grand Blanc, Mich.

Emma Rowley

Emma is a poised freshman and four-sport athlete in her second year playing field hockey as a goalie. Last season at Beacon, Emma volunteered to play the position. “I had never played before, so my stickwork in the field was not very good," she said. Emma’s self-described main sport is softball, and the last two years she played basketball for Beacon's very successful team. Emma is an honors, AP and Academic Challenge student. "We needed an extra goalie for last Friday’s play day because Jordynn Bowe was sick, so Emma changed her work schedule to help us,” Cape coach Kate Austin said. Emma is a competitive skimboarder and was fourth in the junior women's competition in Dewey this summer. "Emma is a hardworking and conscientious athlete," Austin said. "She puts the team first and shows up for her teammates. Her positive attitude and work ethic have caught the attention of the coaching staff during preseason, and we are excited to see her grow."

Meredith Schiff

This Sussex Academy senior has been a jolt of energy for the field hockey and lacrosse programs the last few years. As she steps into her final year in Georgetown, she has no plan of slowing down. Meredith is a human clear on both fields, but it is perhaps her speed on the field hockey pitch that stands out the most. She glides on the turf, busting the myth that the ball is always faster than the player. Her ability to locate and get to open spaces will be needed on the offensive end this season, and not just for clears. Thus far, she is rising to the challenge, converting her first career penalty shot at an Aug. 22 play day and gathering a few goals that day and during the Seahawks' scrimmage against Parkside Aug. 24. The speedy senior's positivity is something to behold, as she is grinning when she is running or grinning if she takes a misstep. Sussex Academy opens the regular season at home Thursday, Sept. 10, against Woodbridge.
