Athletes of the Week Jan. 17

January 17, 2020
Grayson Davis

This 10-year-old Shields Elementary student wrestles in the 80-pound weight class for McDonald Wrestling Club of Millsboro. This season, Grayson has captured first place in Milford tournament’s 9/10 and 11/12 divisions, Camp Barnes tournament’s 9/10 and 11/12 divisions, the Wreck the Halls Stephen Decatur tournament title and the Tigger Tussle Battle for the Belt title in Kennett Square, Pa. Grayson practices four days a week and competes just about every weekend in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey or Pennsylvania. Grayson is in fourth grade and loves the sport of wrestling.

Dylan Fannin

This 6-foot-3 forward is the first freshman big man to start a game for the Cape Henlopen boys’ basketball team since 1,000-point scorer Ian Robertson in 2014. Dylan shows poise beyond his years on the court, where he finishes reliably at the rim, gobbles up rebounds and finds teammates out of the high post. He scored six points on 3-for-4 shooting and grabbed a team-high six boards in the Vikings’ loss at Caesar Rodney Jan. 14. “I try to focus on rebounding, being positive and communicating,” said Dylan, who is averaging four points and four rebounds on 58 percent shooting for the season. An avid NBA fan, Dylan admires skilled big guys like Anthony Davis and LeBron James.

Austin Guerrieri

This 10-year-old H.O. Brittingham Elementary student wrestles in the 65-pound class for the McDonald Wrestling Club out of Millsboro. Austin has captured first-place titles this season at the Mike Beck Memorial Viper Tournament in Cooksville, Md.; the Milford tournament; Green Hornet tournament in Upper Township, N.J.; Battle for the Belt in Bel Air, Md.; SPAZZ Battle for the Belt in Marlton, N.J.; and the Camp Barnes tournament. Austin practices four days a week and competes one to two times a week. Austin is in fifth grade and is looking forward to middle school wrestling.

JJ Haddock

This 6-year-old Epworth Christian School student wrestles at 55 pounds for the Hammers Wrestling Club of Delaware. This season, he’s won his division at the Milford tournament; the Camp Barnes tournament; SPAZZ Battle for the Belt in Marlton, N.J.; Winter Nationals in Atlantic City, N.J.; World of Wrestling Kickoff in Tulsa, Okla.; Savage Nationals in Bethlehem, Pa.; and King of the Jungle in Media, Pa. JJ represents Delaware wrestling throughout the East Coast and continues to push himself in the sport.
