Luke Cresswell 

Luke outlasted the other 12 rookies to win Rehoboth Beach Patrol's Rookie of the Year competition. The 17-year-old from Richmond, Va., won the competition by placing first in five events – run-swim-run, the mile swim, the 800-meter run, line charges and breath hold. He took second in buoy charges, third in push-ups, fourth in the 220-meter soft sand sprint and and sixth in the sprint swim. He said he was confident he would have a good showing, but the results didn't really matter because everyone was just excited to be done after all the training. Luke's parents have owned a beach house in the Nation’s Summer Capital his entire life and he’s got RBP lineage in his blood, as alum Pat Cannon is his uncle. He said he hadn’t really thought about being a lifeguard, but spoke with former Capt. Jeff Giles this past winter, who encouraged him to try out. Back home, Luke runs cross country and track. He said his best event is the 800 meters, with a personal-best time of 2:02.

Brody Fazio

A rising seventh-grade honor student at Fred Thomas Middle School in Lewes, this pleasant student was key to the success for the Lewes major all-stars in the District 3 tournament last week. He had a 1.28 ERA for the district tournament in two games pitched. Brody hit .625 with one double and a home run. He also pitched four innings in Lewes' 2-1 loss to Milton, giving up four hits and striking out seven. Brody started on the Fred Thomas Middle School team as a sixth-grader this spring at first base. He also lends his talents and skills to the Fred Thomas football and wrestling squads. When not studying or playing school sports, Brody can be found spending time with his family, surfing or bass fishing. 

Hudson Hartstein 

A rising seventh-grader at Mariner Middle School, Hudson helped lead the Milton major all-stars to the District 3 championship over Lewes July 20 in Bridgeville.  He struck out 14 batters in 10.1 innings pitched while allowing just one run in the tournament. His opponents batted .167 against him. He also helped the team at the dish, pounding three singles, a double and a timely home run in the championship game against Lewes. He collected five RBIs, and posted a slugging percentage was 1.000. "Hudson is a leader," said Milton manager Mike Nelson. "He works hard and brings out the best in his teammates. He controls the game when he is on the mound, and he had some key hits for us, including the big home run in the championship. He's a true competitor." Hudson also plays football and basketball at Mariner. He likes riding his bike in his spare time. 

Marshall Keys 

A rising junior at Cape Henlopen High School, Marshall recently took top honors at the Dewey Beach Patrol Rookie of the Year competition. His total points won over 11 other rookies by a total of 10 points. He placed first in the half-mile run, line charges and buoy charges. He garnered second in push-ups and the stand pull, and third in the mile swim, run-swim-run, 50-yard sprint swim and 220-yard sprint. Rescue simulations were also part of the event. "Since the beginning of the year when rookie training began, Marshall had always shown a tremendous amount of effort and grit, being first in nearly all the workouts performed," said DBP Lt. Hank Coveleski. "He consistently gives his 100% and it showed during his performance at the rookie test, rightfully earning himself the Rookie of the Year title." A middie on the Cape lacrosse squad, he played a key role in the Vikings' success this season.
