Athletes of the Week July 27

July 27, 2018
Nick Cox

A rising eighth-grader at Mariner Middle School, this honor roll student took over on the mound in the third inning of the Cape/Georgetown Junior All-Stars’ game against Naamans July 25. He pitched 4.2 innings of shutout baseball, striking out 11 batters. He also helped himself at the plate, registering a hit. "Nick stepped in and dealt with the situation and threw strikes," said Cape/Georgetown manager Zac Crouch. "He's a great kid. He has a lot of energy, and he is always ready to play the game." He also plays for the Bagel Bombers’ Rauch travel ball team. Nick is also a member of the Mariner basketball team in the winter and the Vikings’ baseball squad in the spring. You can usually find him fishing and riding the ocean waves when not on the baseball diamond.

Jonathan Stokley

This Cape/Georgetown Junior All-Star smacked a three-run homer in the first inning of the 6-3 win over the Naamans All-Stars July 25. He picked up another RBI in the top of the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly. A rising freshman at Sussex Tech, this honor roll student is a stellar catcher behind the plate. "Jonathan is an absolute rock star," said manager Zac Crouch. "He is such an asset to the team behind the plate. He's a wall back there, and he can hit the ball, as seen in this game." Jonathan plays for the Bagel Bombers’ Rauch team when not on the all-stars. When not playing baseball, you can find him fishing or at the beach.

Noah Wells

This Milton Majors All-Star celebrated his 11th birthday in style July 24, as he drilled two doubles and picked up three RBIs in Milton’s win over Middletown/Odessa/Townsend. "Noah is one of our classic role players," said Milton manager Paris Mitchell. "We expect Noah to come in and give us a good offensive at-bat, and he did that not once but twice for us tonight. He made it hurt and cemented the win with a no-doubter." It was his first multiple-hit game for the all-stars. A rising sixth-grader at Mariner Middle School, he also plays for the Henlopen Wave travel ball team. When not playing baseball, he can be found practicing baseball or going to the beach.

Jayceon White

A 12-year-old playing his last year as a Milton Major League All-Star, Jayceon is making his presence known to his opponents by setting them up with one pitch, then putting them in the book with another. He pitched 5 2/3 innings before reaching his pitch count and didn’t give up an earned run in the Milton 5-1 win over Middletown/Odessa/Townsend. "Jayceon is the kid we've come to rely on time and time again, not just this year but for many years for Milton Little League," said Milton manager Paris Mitchell. "He give us quality outings on the mound. He's unflappable out there. MOT had people on, and he just gives you everything's he's got." A rising seventh-grader at Mariner Middle, he also plays travel ball for the Delmarva Aces.
