Lucille Elder

A rising seventh-grade honors student at Fred Thomas Middle School in Lewes, this goalie stood tall in the crease for the Atlantic Lacrosse Club in the recent 2026 Eastern Shore Youth Lacrosse Association Championship, making 12 saves to propel the ALC squad to a 12-8 victory over Beach Lax at DE Turf in Frederica. She followed that up with a 13-save performance in the LAX is Life tournament  in Northeast, Md., for the Eastern Shore Lacrosse Club 2032/33 team. "Lucy has made tremendous progress as a goalie this year," said coach Allison Vavala. "Her dedication outside of practice has paid off, making key saves that have helped her team secure wins in Atlantic and Eastern Shore. Lucy was fearless in goal this past weekend, helping us clinch a spot in the semifinals. Lucy came up big for the team with several big one-on-one saves." When not in the lacrosse cage, Lucille can be found playing violin or swimming for the Lewes Yacht Club squad. 

Mya Jones

Mya was a four-year first-team  all-state softball player out of Sussex Central High School. She graduated top 15 in her class. She recently graduated from Bridgeport University, completing her senior season with a .434 batting average that included seven home runs and 36 RBIs. Mya had a conference slugging percentage of .851. The third baseman was named the 2026 Central Atlantic College Conference Softball Player of the Year. Mya was on the academic honor roll all four seasons. According to her biography, “Jones is batting .431 over 42 games with nine doubles, five home runs, 23 runs scored and 33 RBIs. She ranks second in the CACC in both batting average and on-base percentage (.496). Jones led the CACC in batting, on-base percentage and slugging percentage during conference play (.532/.566/.851), driving in 20 runs in 15 league games." She graduated with a nursing degree while earning Division III All-American honors.  

Mike Toomey

Mike was a lineman on the Gold all-star football team out of Sussex Central High School, where he was a three-year starter and a first-team all-state guard. Mike has committed to play at Moravian University. He also played first base on the Central baseball team. He is an international baccalaureate student. Line coach Mark Booth said, "Mike is that kid you always want in your program. He works his butt off in the classroom, in the weight room and on the field. He sets a great example for everyone on how you should work. On the field, Mike was a quiet leader with his work ethic and play. He knew all six positions on the line. He switched from tackle to guard and didn’t miss a beat and even got better. Our guards have to do everything – be smart to know what [Mike] was doing and what the others were doing – go heads up with big DTs, get up on LBs and also be fast and pull in space and find those little guys. Mike did that as one of the best in the state. All-around great young men and a great example for the young guys.” 

Arina Varrato

Arina graduated from Sussex Technical High School in 2024 having run cross country and track.  She is now 20 years old and attending Delaware Technical Community College in Dover and majoring in digital media. Arina is the natural super-fit athlete and she knows it. And she doesn’t mind putting herself out there in local running races. During the Seashore Striders' recent Triple Crown weekend, Arina competed in all three races, winning the female title at the Georgetown Library 5K in 21:24 and the Ty Snook Memorial 5K in Lewes in 21:23. She ran her fastest  time in the Father's Day 5K in Rehoboth Beach in 20:59 to secure second place in the 20-24 age group. Ironically, an athlete whose running talents are pegged to time, Arina doesn’t run cross country for Delaware Tech, saying, “I really don’t have the time. I’m just too busy." Athletically and academically fit, Arina has got it together.
