Alec Dukes
There are some Seahawks who figuratively fly and then there is this Sussex Academy senior who can also literally fly. Alec, who pilots planes taking off just a few football fields from where he played tennis, has already shown he has a bright future. As one of three seniors on Sussex Academy's boys' tennis team, he helped the team go undefeated, deliver Caesar Rodney its first loss in more than a decade and capture the Henlopen Conference title. Alec was mostly an exhibition player, but his pilot license isn't his only hidden talent, as the team's secret weapon did not lose a match when he was moved up to the starting lineup. His colorful personality was a big reason his class went from winless to lossless in his four years. For a fun scroll, and a break from doomscrolling, check out the team's Instagram page to see more of Alec and his teammates.
Madison Lubiniecki
This Cape senior catcher caught 120 innings during the 19 games played this season. Madison has battled injuries and concussions over the years, but was able to stay healthy and have a great senior year. Madison holds the schools single-season record of five caught stealing and seven pickoffs. Madison’s bat got hot right when the team needed her most. During the final game of the regular season, Madison had two timely doubles that helped propel the Vikings past Delmarva Christian and into the playoffs. Madison batted .714 in the post-season, but the Vikings didn’t quite have the comeback they would have liked in their last game against Conrad. It was Madison’s solo home run in the fifth inning that put the Vikings on the board and started a rally to keep their hopes alive. Madison is off to Neumann University in the fall to play for the softball team.
