Aud Sternly, a free spirit

October 16, 2019

Aud Sternly, a wife, a mother and longtime resident of Ocean View, after three-plus years as a resident of Atlantic Shores Nursing Home, died Monday, Oct. 7, 2019.

Aud (aka Mama, Nana) is survived by her husband, Roy Dubbs; her sister Lisbeth Sternly (Kjell Brennas); and her three daughters, Sonja Thompson (Dan), Heidi Street (Teddy Smith) and Ingrid Hatton (Rick Flores); and eight grandchildren: Tommy, Lauren, Samantha, Shane, Devin, Haley, Korey and Atreyu.

Mama Nana Aud was born July 24, 1935, in Skien, Norway. She traveled extensively for a number for years before she met her first husband, Richard Hatton. She made a wonderful life for her family in France, Germany and England, moving to reside the remainder of her life in the USA in 1979, first, in Falls Church, Va., then Ocean View in 1985.

Aud and Richard divorced in 1997 and she was remarried to Roy in 2002. Mama Nana Aud was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She enjoyed traveling, just about anything outdoors, oh, and shopping! She sincerely enjoyed time with her family and friends. She was a free spirit! What she experienced in her life many could only dream of!

She loved and included so many along her journey! She was a worker and a doer, a skilled artist, seamstress, knitter. She was a woman of many talents. She cooked and baked with love. She was an amazing mother and friend. Fun and kind to all. She loved dogs, Lucky boy being her all-time favorite. Mama Nana Aud was a woman of faith.  She had all faith in God and never lost her faith in those that she loved. She will be deeply missed but has no doubt left her mark and left this world a better place.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 2, at  3 p.m., at Millville United Methodist Church, 36405 Clubhouse Road at Rt. 26, Millville.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donation to Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.
