Awakenings exhibit to open June 1 at Peninsula Gallery

May 23, 2019

Awakenings, a collection of photographs by Brook Hedge, will be featured June 1 to 25 at the Peninsula Gallery in Lewes. The gallery will host an artist’s reception from 5 to 7 p.m., Saturday, June 1.

Local photographer Brook Hedge spent 40 years in the legal profession in Washington, D.C., and after she retired to Lewes, she decided to follow her lifelong passion for photography. Her new exhibit at the Peninsula Gallery, Awakenings, represents her reflections upon this new chapter in her life. Although she studied with different professionals through the years, and actually exhibited in a number of juried shows, this will be her first one-person show. Previously, she had exhibited in collective shows held by Packard-Reath Gallery in Lewes, the Rehoboth Art League and the Biggs Museum in Dover. She has won several awards of excellence, among them the William Horn Award for best photograph in the 78th Annual Rehoboth Art League Members Fine Art Exhibition. She now serves on the RAL Board.

The photographs in this exhibit take various forms including some being printed on aluminum. The choice of images was a collaborative effort among Brook, gallery owners Carol and Tony Boyd-Heron, and their assistant Molly King. The title Awakenings was chosen because so many of the images seek to explore light and life through different perspectives, awakening the viewer to the never-ending search for connections in life’s journey. When one door closes, another can open, if one is determined enough.

All images may be viewed on the gallery website, www.peninsula-gallery.com. The gallery is located in the Shops at the Beacon just across the canal bridge on Savannah Road in Lewes. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday to Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday. Call 302-645-0551 for more information.
