Baltimore Children’s Choir to sing in Bethany June 16

June 14, 2018

The Baltimore Children’s Choir will present a concert themed Stand Together at 4 p.m., Saturday, June 16, at St. Martha’s Church, Bethany Beach. The concert is a stop on the choir’s inaugural tour this June to the Eastern Shore of Maryland and Delaware. The choir’s other two stops will be in Baltimore County and Easton, Md.

Based in Baltimore City, the choir serves more than 50 students throughout the region ranging from kindergarten through 12th grade. Although this is their first tour, the choir has performed in a variety of cathedrals and concert venues including Strathmore Performing Arts Center in Bethesda, Md. The choir has also sung at library openings in Baltimore City, participated in the Maryland Young Voices Festival and sung at the Vietnam War veterans celebration.

The concert’s theme is a compilation of folk songs, classical music, choral selections and musical theater songs that depict the importance of working together as a community.

Artistic Director Joseph Shortall said, “In a world where there is conflict, hate, war and bigotry, it is important to celebrate different cultures and to see how these differences can still be a community. Everyone has different experiences that they can offer, and it is a necessity that we as musical family embrace these differences.”

Shortall is in his seventh season as artistic director of the ensemble, which is celebrating its 18th season.

The concert is family friendly and free to the public. A freewill offering will be taken to support the choir and offset the costs of touring. For more information, go to www.baltimorechildrenschoir.com.
