Bargains on the Broadkill returns to Milton Aug. 25

August 9, 2018

A late-summer tradition, Historic Milton’s Bargains on the Broadkill will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 25, at riverfront Milton Memorial Park in downtown historic Milton.

What started years ago as a small yard sale for Milton residents has grown into a full-blown regional festival, featuring more than 40 vendors of art, crafts, goodies and food. Entertainment will be provided by popular DJ Sky Brady.

The festival’s signature event, the Great Milton Duck Race, offers participants the opportunity to win cash prizes. Rubber ducky numbers will be for sale at Truckin’ Tuesdays and other Milton community events as well as at the festival itself. Ducky numbers are $5 each, and five for $20. The Milton Fire Department releases the ducks into the river at 1 p.m. on the day of the event. The entrant whose ducky is the first to cross the finish line wins a cash prize of $500 from the Milton Chamber of Commerce. The next 24 finishers receive cash prizes donated by the community. Participants need not be present to win.

The festival also features the 19th annual Irish Eyes Kayak Race, which begins at 10 a.m. The race starts at the end of Oyster Rocks Road and ends in the Broadkill River at Milton Memorial Park. For more information and to register online, go to www.irisheyespub.com. The proceeds from the race go toward a fund to hold fireworks in Milton for July 4, 2019. Race amenities include a race shirt and post-race party.

Bargains on the Broadkill is organized by Milton Chamber of Commerce and supports the chamber’s community efforts. For more information, go to www.historicmilton.com or the Milton chamber’s Facebook page.
