Baseball Hall of Fame ballot released

November 26, 2021

Earlier this week, the Baseball Hall of Fame ballots were released. Former Phillies Jimmy Rollins and Ryan Howard are eligible for the first time. I don’t think Ryan Howard is going to get in because although he was a power hitter, he only had 382 home runs and I don’t think is enough be elected. If he hadn't torn his Achilles tendon in the 2011 playoffs and had been able to play at full strength for a few more years, he would have a much better shot. This is the last year for Roger Clemens and Barry Bonds though. You get 10 years to be elected by the baseball writers and need 75% to make it in, which is quite difficult.

By the way, don't forget that 2011 was the last time the Phillies made the playoffs. I think Jimmy Rollins has a better shot to be elected to the Hall of Fame because he was a very well-rounded player. He was great on defense, and he has the most hits in Phillies history with something like 2,400.

I also have thought for years that Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens should make the Hall of Fame because lots of players were using steroids during this era and they were still the best players anyway. I don’t think they’ll make it on the writers ballot, but we will see what happens. The announcement will be made on  Jan. 26, 2022.

On Sunday, the golf world got some good news when Tiger Woods posted on Twitter a video of him hitting a golf shot on the range at the golf course near his house. This is great progress from where he was in March just after his serious car accident. I thought it was crazy and ridiculous that Las Vegas came out after the tweet with odds for him to win the 2022 Masters. First off, Tiger has to figure out if his reconstructed leg can take the stress of hitting lots of practice shots every day. And what about his leg handling the strain of walking any golf course multiple days in a row? I wish him the best regardless, but it think that's a bit of a stretch.

The Eagles had a great Thanksgiving and they didn't even play, thanks to the Cowboys losing in an overtime game to the Las Vegas Raiders. This game just showed how well Raiders quarterback Derek Carr can play if his offensive line gives him the time in the pocket to throw the ball. He had a great game just as he did against the Eagles about a month ago. Since the Cowboys lost, the Eagles somehow now have a chance to win the division if they can win five of their six remaining games. This is a tall order but anything is possible!

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. Leftovers aren't bad either. Go Eagles!
