Bayhealth’s GME programs receive support from M&T Bank

September 19, 2021

Bayhealth has announced it has received a $50,000 grant from M&T Bank to support its Graduate Medical Education programs. Bayhealth’s GME programs, which are the first to launch in the area, are bringing many benefits to the communities of central and southern Delaware, including better access to healthcare for all.

“We are grateful to M&T Bank for their generous contribution to our GME programs,” said Bayhealth’s Director of Graduate Medical Education Lori Smith. “Their generosity will help provide our physician residents and GME programs as a whole with the resources and other support they need for delivering the safest, highest-quality healthcare to everyone in our community, now and in the years to come.”

Bayhealth’s Family Medicine and Internal Medicine Residency Programs were the first to launch, and the physician residents of each program recently began their training and caring for the community. The third GME program - Bayhealth’s General Surgery Residency - will welcome its first residents in July 2022.

“Bayhealth is a driving force in strengthening the health of our communities and we are thrilled to support their mission,” shared M&T Bank’s Delaware Regional President Nick Lambrow. “We were immediately impressed by the Graduate Medical Education program’s commitment to supporting underrepresented minority medical students and improving health equity and access to underserved communities in southern Delaware.”
