Beach eats gettin’ better all the time!

May 18, 2017

While you weren’t looking, the landscape of our beach eats shifted a bit. But fear not! The Rehoboth Foodie keeps track of all things tasty, so charge up your forks and join the fun.

Breakfast is a recurring theme on vacations, and we now have Egg to satisfy your morning needs - just west of the roundabout on Rehoboth Avenue. Pick hits include the mini-croque madames, the Candied Sriracha Bacon and the bloody marys, of course! Another fun spot for a quick breakfast is Kaisy’s Delights in Lewes. Trust me: You WANT to experience a kaiserschmarrn. The drive-thru opens at 7 a.m.

In Lewes, the Pig & Publican in the Beacon Motel serves up a side dish very few others can offer: Free parking! Lots of it. Included in the deal is a clever menu with a slight Belgian accent. Remember Jimmy Lynn’s Seafood in Lewes? Faithful customers Don & Lori Allen have brought it back – along with Jimmy & Lynn Parks, at least temporarily – as Beaches Seafood Market & Carryout. Lots of outdoor seating. Feeling spicy? Try Don’s chili.

About two weeks ago, Rosenfeld’s Jewish Deli made its debut at Rt. 24 and Coastal Highway. They are open early for breakfast and into the evening for dinner. Order The Whole Mishpachah. You won’t eat again for a month.

Blue Hen is up and running in the Avenue Inn on Wilmington Avenue. Sister to the popular Henlopen City Oyster House, there is very little menu overlap. Try the fried chicken and the duck wings. Around the corner, Mason’s Famous Lobster Rolls has been wowing locals (well, we had to find SOMETHING to do while we were waiting for you!) with fresh, never-more-than-a-day-or-two-old lobster. And the rolls are done the proper New England way with the butter-toasted, split-top roll. Around yet another corner is the tiny in size but huge in taste Fuego to Go. This taco joint delivers until 3 a.m. ‘Nuff said?

Remember Hooters? It’s now Cooter's! Cooter Brown’s Twisted Southern Grille on the second floor of First Street Station, to be exact. Outdoor seating with an aerial view of the bustling corner is becoming the place to see and be seen.
