Beacon boys, Mariner girls win cross country finale

Beacon runners win both both individual races

Middle school cross country shut down for the season Nov. 4 with a friendly dual meet between Cape’s sister middle schools, as Beacon and Mariner contested at the University of Delaware’s College of Earth, Ocean and Environment. 

The Beacon boys beat Mariner 19-42, as Trent Kauffman in 11:03, Eddie Houck in 11:35 and Kaden Cherico in 11:50 took the first three places. Beacon finished the season with a 7-1 record, while Mariner finished 4-4.

Mariner students Jia Han Xie in 12:01 and Jackson Isaacs in 12:14 broke up the party in fourth and fifth. They were followed by Beacon runners Riley Stazzone in 12:23, Jacob Goodsell in 12:32,  Brady Cunnane in 12:33 and Max Gillen in 13:08. Jeremiah Hayes of Mariner was 10th in 13:13. 

The Mariner girls edged Beacon 26-31 to finish the dual-meet season with a 7-0 record. Mariner ran without injured runner Ali Stevenson. The Beacon girls finished the season 3-4.

The top 10 runners in the girls’ race were Lindsay Fernandez, Beacon, 12:20; Brooke Terhune, Mariner, 12:47; Sara Dawson, Mariner, 13:34; Anna Kucharik, Mariner, 13:42; Olivia Burkentine, Mariner, 13:43; Ella Walker, Beacon, 13:47; Maya Yngve, Beacon, 14:01; Sophia Massaro, Beacon, 14:04; Cami Nouhra, Beacon, 14:12; and Cayden Willis, Beacon, 14:13.
