Becker’s relationships are unmatched

May 10, 2022

It is heartening to see that we have three candidates willing to dedicate the time and effort to be mayor of Lewes. They all deserve our gratitude for their willingness to take on the work and responsibility associated with the mayor’s office.

While the three candidates may be equally committed, we do not believe they are equally qualified. We consider Ted Becker, our current mayor, to be uniquely deserving of our votes.

Mayor Becker has already proven to us that he has devotion to Lewes, responsiveness and the uncommon work ethic the other candidates claim to have. Relative to these qualifications, Mayor Becker is a sure thing. But this is not the most compelling reason we will be voting for Mayor Becker. He is unique, not just among the candidates, but among all city council members, in his knowledge of the complexities of the personal and historical relationships the city has with other entities, particularly the State of Delaware, Sussex County and our neighboring communities.

We have had a very encouraging influx of new talent to city council. While this is positive and exciting, we cannot afford to lose the historical knowledge and relationships Mayor Becker has worked so long and so hard to acquire.

In my many years of participation on the city finance committee, I saw first-hand how the careful governmental process executed under the leadership of Mayor Becker has given Lewes a financial standing of which we can be proud.

For these reasons, and many more, we need to extend Mayor Becker’s term. He has earned our trust, our admiration and our votes. Please join us.
