Becker’s strong relationships are essential

May 13, 2022

Choose carefully for mayor of Lewes Saturday, May 14, to retain the character and charm of the City of Lewes.

We thank the Greater Lewes Civic Coalition for organizing a candidates’ forum for the mayor of the City of Lewes May 3. All three candidates attended – the incumbent Mayor Ted Becker and challengers Ric Moore and Andrew Williams. If you did not attend the event, we encourage you to review a recording at https://youtu.be/Usc01kDGBqk.

It is clear that with less than four square miles of property subject to zoning restrictions, the City of Lewes is at a crossroads to retain its character and charm.

There remains limited privately held open space in the city that is subject to already greater restrictive zoning ordinances than those which regulate growth in Sussex County. And the city is considering further steps to ensure thoughtful growth while balancing the rights of property owners under the Constitution and state laws. But the real challenge for the city is having a strong voice in managing the runaway growth outside the city limits that has a direct and lasting impact. It is here where strong ties and deep relationships with the governor's office, state legislators, Sussex County Council and career public administrators are essential to the city’s success. It is here where an experienced candidate can influence and persuade outcomes that better align with the core values of Lewes that make the city so very special. We live in a small state where political memories are long and lasting, and these strong ties and deep relationships do matter and are earned over time.

There is only one mayoral candidate who has demonstrated a deep understanding of everything that is Lewes. That candidate is the current Mayor Ted Becker. Listen to the event yourself and we are sure you will come to the same conclusion. Vote May 14 at Lewes City Hall, and vote to re-elect Ted Becker!
