Bernard J. ‘Bernie’ Fiegel, civic volunteer
Bernard J. “Bernie” Fiegel, 87, of Lewes passed away Friday, March 27, 2020, at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford.
He was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., Aug. 20, 1932, and lived in East Providence, R.I., Beverly, N.J., and Montgomery County, Md., until retiring to Lewes in 1994. Bernie served in the U.S. Navy, graduated from the New England Institute of Technology, and was an awarded employee of Vitro Corp. for 30+ years.
He was an active civic and community volunteer, serving as president of Edgewater Estates Homeowners Association, social chair of Osher Lifelong Learning, docent for the Lewes Historical Society, and enthusiastic supporter of the annual Lewes Garden and Christmas Tours.
Bernie loved food, wine and life to the fullest. He created and taught cooking and wine classes for more than 22 years at Osher, including Kitchen Kapers, Kitchen Kapers Road Show, and Grape Expectations. He loved opera, was an avid promoter and internationally recognized square dancer, and always found time to root for his hometown football team, the Steelers, and adopted team, the Washington Redskins.
Bernie is survived by the love of his life and wife of 65 years, Dolores Vincent Fiegel; his children: Lori Jean Fiegel (Tom Fee), Kurt Fiegel and Eric Fiegel (Patricia); his grandchildren: Alex Beers, Gina Beers, Justin Fiegel and Nick Fiegel; his sister, Virginia Fletcher; as well as nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law, and many friends.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, services and burial will be held privately. A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date. In the meantime, raise a glass of wine in Bernie’s memory. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.
