Beulah McQueen-Riggs, beloved family matriarch

September 30, 2019

Beulah McQueen-Riggs, 96, loving mom, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, passed into Heaven Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2019.

She was born Aug. 21, 1923, to William and Beulah Rueber in Baltimore, Md. She grew up in a restaurant owned by her parents and two sisters, the late Lizette Jacke and the late Margaret Schamburg.

Bea loved being with family and friends, especially with Bill and Grace Hamilton, and their tour group. Bea volunteered at Beebe Hospital, became employed by them from 1970-79. A Beebe Auxiliary member for 25 years, at 18 years old Bea joined the Eastern Star, and is a lifetime member. She also volunteered at the Beebe Thrift Shop which she loved. She was a member of the Cape Henlopen Senior Center from its start; she loved going on trips with them and quilting with the girls. She loved life, never wanting to sit around, always on the go. When she was home she loved doing puzzles and playing cards with her friends. Bea was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter Jeanne (Devereaux) Sisk. She was preceded in death by her youngest daughter Linda (Devereaux) Schramm. Her husbands were Wallace Deveraux, Lorace McQueen for 25 years and Paul Riggs for 18 years.

Left behind to miss her is her son-in-law Cliff Schramm Sr., who thinks of Bea as his mom; grandchildren David Sisk Jr., Crisy Sisk, Clifford Schramm Jr. and wife Heather, Jennah (Schramm) Hollen and husband Michael, Matt Schramm and wife Jessica; great-grandchildren: Taylor, Brooke, Andrew, Ava Bell, Lily and Morgan; great-great-grandchild, Henley, plus many more nieces, nephews and many friends will miss her friendship, laughter, and company.

She use to say, drinking a beer at night and Dr. Birch kept her healthy; Dr. Birch was also a good friend. Bea lived a long, happy life; we will miss her greatly.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 2, at 11 a.m., at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may call beginning at 10 a.m.  Burial will follow the services at the Conley’s Chapel Cemetery, 22150 Robinsonville Road, Lewes.
