The Blue Hen Youth Baseball Camp made its fifth annual visit to the Lewes Little League complex June 22-25, giving more than 50 young players an opportunity to learn skills that could make them a future Major League Baseball star. 

Camp Director D.J. Long, who played for the University of Delaware and is head coach for the Sussex Central Golden Knights, gathered a group of knowledgeable assistants to instruct the finer points of America’s favorite pastime. Instructors working the camp are Luke Hammer of McDaniel College, Tim Hartman of the University of Delaware, Sean Luxton of Wilmington University, Andrew Callaway of the University of Delaware, Chase Fleming of Wilmington University, TJ Morris of Salisbury University, Zach Frame of Wilmington University, Brody Fleming of the University of Delaware and Osiah Kelley of the University of Maryland. 

"This week, we have another group of kids who are excited to learn the game of baseball," said Long. "Our mornings consist of stations covering swing mechanics, pitching mechanics, infield/outfield drills, and baserunning. Majority of our kids are from the Milton, Lewes, Rehoboth area with a few kids who are in the area on vacation. As always, we’ve enjoyed our time as coaches and look forward to seeing these players improve throughout the week and in the future."

The last day of the camp featured a home run derby and various competitions such as hardest thrower, most accurate thrower, fastest runner and hardest hitter off the tee.
