Boo-B-Que By the Sea to promote Children in Nature Initiative Oct. 19-20

October 13, 2018

DNREC’s Division of Parks & Recreation will host the 4th annual Boo-B-Que By the Sea, a two-day barbecue cook-off competition and family festival beginning at 6 p.m., Friday, Oct. 19, and continuing from 2 to 7 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 20, at Delaware Seashore State Park.

The Boo-B-Que is a three-part festival – a professional barbecue competition sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society, a local barbecue pork competition hosted by La Vida Hospitality, and a variety of activities for the whole family on Friday and Saturday. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Delaware Children in Nature Endowment Fund, which affords opportunities for young people to participate in outdoor experiences.

KCBS is a competitive cooking organization and the world's largest nonprofit group of barbecue and grilling enthusiasts, with more than 20,000 members worldwide. From 6 to 9 p.m., Friday, attendees can join the Kansas City Barbeque competitors for a spooky evening with trick-or-treating, a kids’ costume contest and an opportunity to sample and select the people’s choice award-winners for chicken wings. Craft beers will also be available on tap for adults.

From 2 to 7 p.m., Saturday, there will be professional and amateur barbecue competitions to see who will be crowned champion. Some 20 amateur and professional barbecuers will be cooking and serving up their best pulled pork recipes. It will be an event for the entire family with kids’ activities, live music by Sweet Leda, and food from area vendors. For more information, go to www.boo-bq.com.
