To kick off the annual #TangerPink breast cancer fundraising campaign, Tanger Outlets in Rehoboth Beach will host a free outdoor yoga session and kickoff ceremony at 10 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 30, in the plaza area next to Tanger Seaside Shopper Services.

Participants can practice yoga, hear about the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition, tour the women's mobile health screening van, honor survivors, enjoy healthy refreshments and buy Tanger PINK cards. The first 100 attendees will receive a free #TangerPink yoga mat, and everyone can enter to win door prizes, including the grand prize gift basket filled with great merchandise from Tanger Outlet stores.

Tanger announced that the event will be led by local resident and breast cancer survivor Shannon Sugrue. Her breast cancer journey inspired her to become a registered yoga teacher. “Shannon is the perfect choice to lead the yoga session at this exciting event,” said Amy Schnerr, general manager at Tanger Outlets. “Not only is Shannon a highly qualified yoga instructor, but she also brings the unique perspective of a person who has had her own cancer journey.”

The event will be a morning of inspiration, connection, and community that gives participants an opportunity to celebrate, reconnect, remember and honor in an outdoor setting. The spirit of the event is inclusive and positive, and it is open to people of all experience levels, not just cancer survivors.

“Our goal at the Pink Yoga Event is to set a tone of solidarity as we start off our month-long fundraising campaign,” Schnerr said. “We’re so pleased Shannon will be a part of that!”

Sugrue enjoys helping other survivors experience how the gentle practice of yoga can bring ease of movement and comfort back to their bodies. Sugrue believes that movement is life-affirming, and that yoga is an ancient wisdom of restorative movement that is profoundly healing.

She is also a licensed massage therapist with One Spirit Massage Studio in Rehoboth Beach. She is certified in oncology massage and offers scar tissue, myofascial, and lymphatic therapies for cancer survivors. Through movement and touch, Sugrue helps her clients find awareness of restrictions in their bodies and guides them toward their own healing potential.

“I’m looking forward to hosting this fun and free yoga session on Sunday, Sept. 30, at Tanger Outlets,” said Sugrue. “I hope people of all ages and ability levels will feel welcome and comfortable at this positive morning event.”
