Bruce Wayne Bennett, avid boater, fisherman

Bruce Wayne Bennett, 63, of Lewes, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2017, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes. He was born Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1953, in Wilmington, son of the late Kennard and Dolores (Gonzalez) Bennett.

Mr. Bennett graduated from Brown Vo-Tech High School in Wilmington. At age 18 he began working for the DuPont Company as a chemical operator, retiring in 2003 after a dedicated career of 32 years. He was an avid boater and fisherman, taking every opportunity given him to be on the water casting a line. He loved Sunday Beach Day at Herring Point with his family and friends. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and dear friend who will be greatly missed by everyone who was blessed to know him.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Bennett was preceded in death by his brother, Brian Bennett. He is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Brenda (Piper) Bennett of Lewes; his son, Chris Bennett and his wife Jen of Virginia Beach, Va.; his daughters: Shawna Foraker and her husband Jordan of Bear, Rhianna Abel and her husband Leland of Lewes, and Andrea Brosius and her husband Luke of Lewes; his grandchildren: Jordan Foraker, Will Minnich, Alayna Foraker, Hannah Abel, Lauren Bennett, Brinley Brosius and Luke Brosius II; and his loyal dog, Bud.

A Celebration of Life will be held on the beach at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Lewes.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Mr. Bennett's memory to the Tunnell Cancer Center, 18947 John J. Williams Highway, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971, or the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center at Christiana Hospital, ATTN: Development Office, 13 Reads Way, Suite 203, New Castle, DE 19720.
