Brush Factory to host vendor tastings Dec. 4, 5 and 11

December 1, 2021

The Brush Factory will host three complimentary open house holiday events in its tastings room from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 4, Sunday, Dec. 5, and Saturday, Dec. 11.

Each event will feature free tastings and samples from vendors.

Dec. 4 shoppers can sample coffee, chocolate and cookies from Swell Joe Coffee, Delaware Chocolate and The Backyard Milton, respectively.

Swell Joe Coffee Company is a Lewes-based wholesale coffee roastery and a year-round market room vendor at the Brush Factory.

“We have a full lineup of every roast, as well as our branded gear every day at the Brush Factory,” said Swell Joe’s Karen Johnson. “But the tastings events give us the opportunity to serve brewed coffee samples to shoppers so they can try before they buy.”

The Swell Joe team is gearing up for Dec. 4, when they'll be sampling Snickerdude, a naturally flavored vanilla and cinnamon coffee that has been a popular seasonal roast in the Cape Region.

Bridget Brown, owner of Delaware Chocolate Company, will join Johnson as a guest vendor serving samples of Shaka•Lit, a coffee-chocolate bar collaboration between Swell Joe Coffee and Delaware Chocolate Company that benefits the Surfgimp Foundation. Brown’s bean-to-bar chocolate company is based in Fenwick Island and specializes in artisanal, fair trade and vegan products.

Another guest vendor, Ami Rae, owner of The Backyard Milton, will join Johnson and Brown at the Dec. 4 event to celebrate National Cookie Day with free samples of her scratch-made cookies.

“We’ve been serving Swell Joe Coffee at our Milton restaurant for over seven years, and the seasonal launch of Snickerdude inspired us to join in on the tasting event with our own customer favorite, snickerdoodle cookies,” said Rae. Full-size snickerdoodle cookies will also be available for purchase during the event.

Dec. 5 shoppers can sample honey from Big Joe’s Honey, a bee apiary in Wyoming featuring handcrafted honey and beeswax products. Owners Joe and Theresa Nicolai practice all-natural healthy hive management, and keep beekeeping local and all in the family in central Delaware. Big Joe’s honey comes straight from the hive, is passed through a filter and then into the jar.

Dec. 11 visitors to The Brush Factory’s market room will be treated to samples of Soberdough Brew Bread, an artisan bread with no artificial ingredients, available in a variety of flavors. It’s a quick bread – prepared easily in 5 minutes, popped in the oven, and then served fresh and hot at the table. The bread is designed to be mixed with a favorite craft beer, club soda or carbonated drink. Soberdough Brew Bread is available locally only at the Brush Factory.

The Brush Factory, open daily 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., is located at 830 Kings Highway in Lewes. For more information, email brushlewes@gmail.com or call 302-864-7005.
