Burger King collecting for VFW Unmet Needs in November

November 20, 2018

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Foundation announced that, for the 12th consecutive year, Burger King franchisees across the country will host fundraisers to benefit the VFW Unmet Needs program during November. Patrons of participating Burger King restaurants are encouraged to donate $1 or more to the VFW Unmet Needs program with the purchase of their meals. Through this annual fundraiser, Burger King franchises have contributed more than $5.3 million to the program to date.

The VFW Unmet Needs program assists service members and military families during times of financial hardship. By providing financial grants of up to $1,500, the program is able to help with basic life necessities like rent, mortgage and utility payments, vehicle repair, medical expenses and food/basic assistance. Since 2004, the VFW Unmet Needs program has provided approximately $10.5 million in aid to U.S. service members, veterans and their families in crisis.

Delaware Burger King franchise owner Frank Czerwinski said, “VFW’s Unmet Needs program has provided much-needed financial assistance to military families since 2004. And with the help of generous contributions from Burger King customers, the program has helped more than 3,000 military families across the U.S. For our restaurants, all of the money raised will stay right here in Delaware to help local military families. We will be promoting this fundraiser at all six of our Delaware locations in Rehoboth Beach, Seaford, Camden, Dover, Middletown and Bear.”

“Burger King franchisees are incredibly patriotic Americans. It is hard to believe that it has been over 10 years since I first promoted the Unmet Needs campaign, and the enthusiasm of my fellow franchisee owners for this program continues to grow. Burger King customers also have been extremely generous as they realize their donations will actually make a positive difference in the lives of those in their local communities and nationwide for those who have often personally sacrificed so much for us all,” said Mike DeRosa, a franchise owner and spokesperson for the group.

“All too often, America’s service members, veterans and their families face incredibly difficult challenges, and the VFW is dedicated to ensuring financial hardship isn’t one. The support we receive from participating Burger King franchisees and their loyal customers is crucial in ensuring the Unmet Needs program continues to provide our brave heroes with the support they need and deserve during life’s most difficult times. Together, we can ensure the needs of America’s heroes and their families never go unmet,” said Richard Freiburghouse, VFW Foundation manager.
