Kyle Busch won his 69th truck race in front of a great Dover crowd May 15 during all-star weekend at the Monster Mile.
Love him or love to hate him, he was one of the best to ever drive a car in the NASCAR series. Whether he was in a Cup Series car, O'Reilly Auto Parts car or a Craftsman truck, you knew he was going to give his absolute best and do it his way, unapologetically.
Busch holds the record for most wins in the Craftsman Truck Series and what’s now known as the O'Reilly Auto Parts Series with 69 and 102 wins, respectively. He also holds the most wins in all series combined when in his cup wins are added in. Busch brought home wins in all three series in one weekend twice – something that no one has ever done.
Busch succumbed to a severe illness unexpectedly May 21. During his interview after winning his 69th race in the truck series last weekend in Dover, he was wasked why winning moments mean so much. He replied, "Because you never know when the last one is.” Unfortunately for us, that was his last win and his last bow.
To say that he is going to be missed is a huge understatement. The world has lost an icon. One of the fiercest competitors of our time. Prayers go out to his family and friends. He leaves behind his wife Samantha, his son Brexton who celebrated his 11th birthday just a few days ago, daughter Lennix and his brother Kurt, a former NASCAR champion.
Thank you, Kyle Busch. We love you or loved to hate you. Either way, we will all miss you. RIP Rowdy!
