Byrne answers questions he has received

August 3, 2018

Some of you of have asked...

• I'm independent and not affiliated with a political PAC or a slate.

• I've been attending and participating regularly in important city meetings (commissioners, commissions, and committees) for a long time.

• I am against LLC voting. I favor one person – one vote.

• I am against the commercialization of our residential neighborhoods. Residential zoning must be enforced to preserve our unique neighborhoods and quality of life. I do not support mini-hotels and I do not support rentals that rent by the room or by the day.

• My family has no financial interests in the city. We do not rent. I have no conflicts of interest.

• I strongly support our local businesses. The city needs to promote a flourishing business community.

• I've been working for years to protect our natural environment and natural resources.

• I believe in fiscal responsibility at every level of city government.

• I will encourage ethical, fair, transparent and open government, stronger and more frequent communication such as live-streaming all important city meetings.

• I believe Rehoboth Beach should work and partner with neighboring coastal communities, Sussex County, and state and federal agencies much more than in the past. I have built relationships with individuals and agencies at all levels with whom the city should collaborate to fund and solve environmental, economic, and infrastructure issues.

I pledge to listen to people and businesses all over the city, take ideas and concerns to the commissioners and communicate openly about plans and actions.

I will do everything I can to support Rehoboth's historic neighborhoods, residential housing, lovely parks, great restaurants, thriving unique businesses, distinctive boardwalk, and the best beach in the country.

I ask for your vote on Saturday, Aug. 11, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at the convention center.

Richard (Dick) Byrne
candidate, Rehoboth Beach commission
