Byrne listens and plans before acting

August 3, 2018

I write in strong support of Richard Byrne for Rehoboth Beach commissioner. I have known Dick and his wife Sherri Wright since they moved to Rehoboth as permanent residents. I have owned my home since 2008 at Park Place on the Canal, where Dick is our long-serving HOA president.

Dick is thoughtful, collaborative and hardworking—all the attributes of a true leader. He is engaged in our community, volunteering his time as president of the Sussex Family YMCA Board of Governors, a member of the Delaware YMCA Association Board of Directors and chair of the City of Rehoboth Beach Animal Issues Committee, to name but a few of his roles.

Most importantly Dick listens. He never acts before he plans. He knows that both short- and long-term planning are critical to preserve and maintain the unique place we all love: Rehoboth Beach. I have no doubt that Dick will be able to work with county, state and federal agencies to address the impact of stormwater runoff on our lakes and ocean shore. This will require knowledge, technical expertise and great patience. Dick has them all.

We have a number of issues facing us now and, no doubt, some unexpected issues will come our way in the next year or two. I have every confidence Dick can be a leader in resolving all of them to the benefit of the people of Rehoboth Beach. Please join me in voting for him as commissioner on Aug. 11.
