Calvin Jackson is needed on Cape school board

May 3, 2019

Calvin Jackson will bring fresh ideas and approaches to the Cape Henlopen school board. He sees the need for a board that reaches out to the community and students. Calvin will be a board member who strives to communicate, not only via formal high school meetings, but by traveling out to the communities to meet and listen to the parents in their neighborhoods. He will serve, and recommend the board serve, as a bridge between the community and the school.

Calvin has a history of forming groups of volunteers to mentor students. An aggressive program of student mentoring makes a difference to those often left behind or who fail to make a positive contribution in the classroom. He will be a board member with a greater level of involvement with the students to lessen the achievement gap.

Lastly, Cape Henlopen’s board has been slow to balance staff recruitment to reflect, at a minimum, the makeup of its student body. While the demographic disparity has been evident for years, the school has failed to make significant progress. The result has been a negative impact on the well-rounded background of all our students. Calvin will make a renewed effort to make much-needed progress in this area.

For these reasons, I recommend my fellow neighbors to vote for Mr. Calvin Jackson and to provide a fresh approach to the Cape Henlopen school board.
