CAMP Rehoboth art and music events begin Nov. 8

Local artisans to sell wares at handmade market
November 1, 2020

CAMP Rehoboth has announced several exciting goings-on for November.

Breaking Barriers, a juried art exhibit featuring work by 21 artists in a variety of art forms, will be on display from Sunday, Nov. 8 to Saturday, Nov. 28, in the CAMP Rehoboth gallery, 37 Baltimore Ave., Rehoboth Beach. The art exhibition will be held in conjunction with a Stonewall National Museum traveling display, Breaking the Sound Barrier: The Women's Music Movement from the 1970s to the 1990s. The Stonewall exhibit consists of nine large panels. Actual memorabilia from the women’s music scene – framed photos, posters, jackets, album covers and a looping documentary – will enhance the display.

Both shows explore the common theme of breaking barriers. Artists will share how they have used art to achieve a goal or break down a barrier. This includes addressing stereotypes, pushing through obstacles and using art to amplify their voice.

An opening reception is scheduled for 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 13, in conjunction with the CAMP Rehoboth Handmade Market, where local craftspeople display and sell wares in the courtyard. Breaking Barriers artists will be on hand to share their vision. Individuals can peruse the handmade market, then follow a path through the CAMP Rehoboth Community Center to view the art exhibit and museum display. Best practices will be followed, and face masks are required.

Lucie Blue Tremblay, a performer who was part of the women’s music scene, will be featured at a virtual open mic night from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 20, live at CAMP Rehoboth Community Center’s Facebook page. Tremblay appeared at the 1985 Michigan Womyn's Music Festival.
