CAMP Rehoboth to commemorate World AIDS Day Dec. 1

November 27, 2019

CAMP Rehoboth, an organization dedicated to celebrating diversity, building a strong sense of community, and creating a more positive environment for all people, gay and straight, will again observe World AIDS Day Sunday, Dec. 1, with activities including a candlelight walk, and a service of remembrance and hope. The service will include a reading of the names of friends and family lost to the disease.

The observation will start at 6:15 p.m. with a pre-walk gathering and candle lighting at the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand on Rehoboth Avenue at the Boardwalk. The candlelight walk will begin at 6:30 p.m. from the bandstand. Participants will proceed down Rehoboth Avenue, ending at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, 18 Olive Ave., Rehoboth Beach.

The service of remembrance and hope, including the reading of names, will start at 7 p.m. at All Saints’ Church. A light supper will be served following the service, at 7:45.

World AIDS Day takes place Dec. 1 each year. It’s an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, to show support for people living with HIV, and to commemorate those who have died from an AIDS-related illness. Founded in 1988, World AIDS Day was the first global health day.

The Rehoboth Beach World AIDS Day Candlelight Walk and Service of Remembrance and Hope has been a December tradition in Rehoboth Beach since the mid-1990s. There are multiple ways to participate in this important day of remembrance: Take part in the candlelight walk, attend the service of remembrance and hope, or volunteer to read names at the service.

To volunteer or to have the name of a loved one read at the service, email worldaidsday@camprehoboth.com or call the CAMP Rehoboth Community Center at 302-227-5620.
