Cape’s Lord-Gordon recognized for meal program

October 20, 2020

Delaware First Lady Tracey Quillen Carney stopped by H.O. Brittingham Elementary Oct. 12 to present Cape Supervisor of Child Nutrition Services Cheryle Lord-Gordon with a First Chance award for her work in keeping students fed when COVID-19 forced schools to close in March.

Lord-Gordon coordinated a team that prepared and distributed 1,600 grab-and-go meals – 800 breakfasts and 800 lunches – for families to pick up at locations throughout the district while schools were closed.

Carney launched the awards initiative in partnership with the End Childhood Hunger Task Force in 2018 to focus on ending childhood hunger and expand access to nutritious food for low-income children.
