Cape boys’ basketball scrimmages IR

Vikings open regular season Dec. 7 versus Dover

The Cape Henlopen boys’ basketball team tuned up for its 2021-22 season with a scrimmage at Indian River Nov. 29.

The Vikings blew open a tight contest with a 24-0 fourth-quarter run and posted a 64-28 win. Junior guard Trey Leggins led Cape with 13 points on 6-for-9 shooting, while junior big man Odin Potemski added 10 points and knocked down five of his six shots. Senior forward Zimere Bolden chipped in with nine points and eight rebounds for Cape, which shot 54 percent from the floor and limited the undersized Indians to 18 percent shooting. Sophomore forward Ray Mitchell tallied eight points, five boards and three blocks, while sophomore point guard Drew Zimmerman collected seven points, four rebounds and three assists. 

The Vikings improved to 2-2 in preseason scrimmages. They fell to Howard and St. Elizabeth at a Nov. 26 play day before defeating A.I. du Pont the following day. 

Cape opens regular-season play Tuesday, Dec. 7, when the Vikings host a very talented Dover squad.
