The Cape boys’ lacrosse team took to the turf of Legends Stadium May 10 to finish out its regular-season home schedule by honoring the 14 graduating seniors and dismantling Appoquinimink 20-6.

Senior Greg Boyce put the ball in the back of the net seven times on the night. Gabe Best and Luke D’Ambrogi added three scores each, Jack Dennis got two, and Blake Gipko, Hank D’Ambrogi, Mikey Frederick, Robbie Rickenbach and Drew Dennis each scored one.

Picking up assists were Luke D’Ambrogi with four, Best, Hank D’Ambrogi and Billy Ott with two apiece, and Boyce and Adem Tekmen with one each.

Cape outshot the Jags 55-20. Goalies Sean Griffith and Baxter Travers teamed for five saves in the Vikings’ cage.

Cape scored seven goals in the first period and it was all downhill for the visiting Jags from there, facing a running clock for the fourth quarter.

“We are trying to play well every time we step out there,” said Cape coach Mark D’Ambrogi. “In spurts we played really well. There were periods where we kinda gave the ball away or didn’t finish our opportunities. We’re trying to be a complete team, a four-quarters team. In a game like this, it’s nice that everyone gets to play. It’s nice to start all seniors and all seniors get to play. We were fairly balanced in our scoring, and we got contributions from a lot of guys. We’ve got to play better, though. We gave up a lot of opportunities early in the game.”

The Vikings travel to the 3-10 Wilmington Friends Tuesday, May 14, and will play for the Henlopen Conference championship against the Henlopen South winner later this week.
