Cape dominates five-team cross country meet

Ethan Edery and Faith Mitchell win individual titles

It was striders before the storm Oct. 15 on Cape’s home cross country course at the University of Delaware’s College of Earth, Ocean and Environment. 

Five schools fielded runners in the boys’ and girls’ races. All teams were scored head to head, with low score winning.

The Cape boys, led by Ethan Edery (16:48), dominated the field, beating Dover 16-47, Milford 15-50, Sussex Academy 19-44 and Woodbridge 15-50. 

Other head-to-head matchups included Milford over Dover 28-29 and Dover over Sussex Academy 26-29.

The girls’ race was won by Milford eighth-grader Faith Mitchell in 20:24, but Cape cleaned house in the team competition, beating Milford 24-33, Dover 15-50, Sussex Academy 20-40 and Woodbridge 15-50. 

Other head-to-head matchups included Milford beating Dover 15-46, Sussex Academy 23-34 and Woodbridge 15-50. Dover beat Woodbridge 15-50. 

The top 15 runners in the boys’ field of 90 runners were: Ethan Edery, Cape, 16:48; Jake Mundok, Sussex Academy, 17:28; Hunter Jones, Cape, 17:30; Julian Callaway, Cape, 17:47; Ryan Baker, Cape, 17:55; Nate Guy, Dover, 18:14; Lance Kauffman, Cape, 18:22; Daniel Adili-Khams, Cape, 18:30; Ace Howard, Cape, 18:35; Dale Ostermann, Milford, 18:38; Conor Sylvester, Milford, 18:41; Andrew Wolak, Cape, 18:43; Nate Sneller, Sussex Academy, 18:44; Liam O’Donnell, Cape, 18:53; and Victa Phillips, Dover, 18:57. 

The top 15 runners in the girls’ field of 59 were: Faith Mitchell, Milford, 20:24; Katie Kuhlman, Cape, 20:36; Olivia Brozefsky, Cape, 20:40; Helena Helou, Sussex Academy, 21:24; Brianna Thompson, Milford, 21:26; Mia Nuebling, Cape, 21:28; Emily Trout, Sussex Academy, 21:30; Lindsay Rambo, Cape, 22:05; Alex Herber, Milford, 22:12; Elizabeth Melson, Cape, 22:19; Ariana Adili -Khams, Cape, 22:19; Paige Thompson, Milford, 22:23; Alissa Swann, Sussex Academy, 22:32; Jorja Willey, Milford, 22:50; and Caroline Maull, Cape, 23:10. 

Most Delaware cross country teams will be competing in the Joe O’Neill Invitational at Bellevue State Park Friday, Oct. 18. The varsity boys’ race starts at 3 p.m. followed by the varsity girls’ race at 3:30 p.m. Those are followed by JV races on the half hour.
