Cape Gazette goes to Rehoboth’s sister city of Greve in Tuscany

In October, 7 residents of the Cape Region traveled to Italy for a 2-week Tuscan adventure, visiting fabled cities, hill towns and vineyards.

From their home base of Montespertoli, the travelers headed south to the medieval municipality of Greve, a center of the Chianti wine region and, surprisingly, a sister city of Rehoboth Beach.

Greve maintains a garden dedicated to Rehoboth and Rehoboth, in turn, built an arbor dedicated to Greve.

In both towns, there are monuments to Giovani Verrazano the 18th century seafaring explorer of the North Atlantic coast.

Standing in the piazza in front of the bronze statue of Verrazano, who was born near Greve, are (l-r) Paul and Colleen Wilson of Fenwick Island, Barbara Isaac formerly of Lewes, Iris Jane Prager of Milton, Robert Isaac formerly of Lewes, Ellen Roney Hughes and Irene Paonessa of Rehoboth Beach.
