The Cape Henlopen girls’ basketball team could do no wrong Dec. 19, as they defeated Milford 65-11 with a dominating performance from the opening tip.

Senior Sydney Pedersen hit for 21 points, including three from beyond the arc in the first three minutes of the game.

“I think tonight was all because of our teamwork,” said Pedersen. “It’s how we have come together in practice, and how we practice is how we play in the games. My teammates encourage each other, and when it comes from them, the confidence really helps.”

“When they sit in their zone and she’s able to hit those threes coming out of the gate, it really stretches them out, and it opens it up for us inside,” said Cape coach Lauren Carra. “She did a great job, and that’s been the story for us. When she’s hitting in the first quarter, good things happen for us.”

Sophomore Ryleigh Elliott scored 13 points, while Niya Mosley and Alexis Watkins hit for 10 and nine points, respectively.

“Everyone was very unselfish tonight,” said Carra. “It was a total team effort.”

Milford’s Vanasha Daniels scored five for the Bucs.

The Lady Vikings were set to travel to Padua Thursday, Dec. 21, to take on the Pandas.
