Cape girls’ lax beats Charter Force 22-2 in quarterfinals

Vikings will play Sussex Academy in semifinals

The state tournament semifinals for girls’ lacrosse are set for Tuesday, May 23, at Delaware State University in Dover. Cape Henlopen, the defending state champion, will play Sussex Academy at 5 p.m. Tatnall will match up against Archmere at 7 p.m. The winners will play for the state championship at 7 p.m., Thursday, May 25, at DSU. 

Cape reached the semifinals with a 22-2 home win over the Charter School of Wilmington. 

Lulu Rishko entered the home game versus Charter needing three goals to reach 100. Rishko is a runner, not a gunner; she takes the draw ready and willing to share the ball. She had six goals in the game and reached the 100-goal milestone midway through the first half. 

Cape led the Force 11-2  at halftime, then ran an 11-0 crooked number in the second half for the final of 22-2.

Cape goal scorers were Rishko with six, Addy Basile and Lexi Nowakowski each with three, Carrie Clausius and Macy Steinwedel each with two and Landon Diehl, Avary Miller, Claire Lopez, Anna Suillivan, Lina Frederick and Lexi Truitt with one goal apiece. 

Goalkeeper Anna Lopez had four saves.

Charter goals were scored by Emma Gaz and Mollie Marshall. Kathryn Houston had six saves for the Force.

Sussex Academy beat Ursuline 19-13 to reach the semifinal game versus Cape. Cape beat Sussex Academy in the regular season 10-7. 

Tatnall beat Caesar Rodney 21-6 in a May 20 quarterfinal game. Archmere won 18-10 over Tower Hill in the other semifinal game. Tatnall beat Archmere 20-4 May 4.
