Cape girls’ lax receives top seed for state tournament

Top 4 get first-round bye

Cape Henlopen received the top seed for the 2019 DIAA Girls’ Lacrosse Tournament. The top four teams receive a bye in the first round, which begins Thursday, May 16.

Archmere is No. 2, followed by Tower Hill and Ursuline. 

No. 8 Newark Charter will play ninth-seeded Tatnall at Caravel, with the winner moving on to play Cape on the Vikings’ home field at 6 p.m., Saturday, May 18.

No. 5 St. Andrew’s will host No. 12 Smyrna, with the winner playing Ursuline at 2 p.m., Saturday, at Serviam Field.

The bottom bracket features seventh-seeded Polytech hosting No. 10 Charter at 7 p.m., Thursday, with the winner heading to Archmere at 11 a.m., Saturday.

No. 6 Padua will play 11th-seeded Saint Mark’s, with the winner playing at Tower Hill at 11 a.m., Saturday.

The semifinal round is Tuesday, May 21, with the championship game scheduled for Thursday, May 23. Locations for semis and final have yet to be determined.
